Voice Composer is a music creation software tool that allows you to create MIDI samples of dozens of instruments just by using your voice as input. Alternatively, you can load any existing MIDI or karaoke file and edit it, adding new creative chords and effects.
Though initially designed to use your voice recordings as the main input, the program allows you to add new notes and chords either by pressing on any of the keys of the graphical piano keyboard available, or by right-clicking on any of the notes represented in the interface. Besides, you can use the QWERTY line of your PC to play basic tunes. Useful as these other alternatives may be, the main asset of Voice Composer is the ability of creating MIDI samples out of your own voice, meaning that you need not be an expert musician to transpose your own tunes into almost any instrument or even into a full orchestra. You just need to connect a microphone to your system, select an instrument, and start singing or humming your favorite music, and let Voice Composer will do the rest.
The interface is fairly easy to use, though you may regret the lack of a proper help file at some point. The few options available apply almost exclusively to the way the different controls are displayed in the program’s main and only window. However, you can also customize the way the keyboard is shown in the program’s main interface (allowing you to play in the octave(s) of your choice), as well as the number of notes to be graphically represented there, so that you can easily see which notes are being played and the length of each sound. Once you are happy with the results (you can play back all your recordings at any time), you just need to save your composition into a .MID file and share it with your friends and fellow musicians.
